Action Items
Most of us can relate to such things as goal lists, to do lists, priority lists, or some other kind of list. Several of the meetings I have with the Jones family will result in what we call “action items”. Action Items are those things that the family decides are necessary steps toward being better prepared. This page will give you, our readers, the opportunity to follow the Jones’ action items as they are created and as they are accomplished. You may even want to start your own action item tracker as part of your preparedness centered life.
| Create ICE in the cell phones and wallet cards. | |
| Complete Family Emergency Plan form and place copies in car, house, & work. | |
| Inform our out of state contact that we have selected them and if they can accept being our out of state contact. | |
| Verify the schools have correct contact information for John and Mary, our local ICE contact and our out of state ICE contact. | |
| Have one FRS radio in each car and in each child’s school bag in addition to the ‘base FRS’ kept at home. Provide either wind up FRS or spare batteries, and mark the FRS with the preferred channel and the backup channel. | |
| Research and purchase a SAME capable radio receiver. | |
| Conduct “home evacuation” drill once a month. Set off the fire alarm and have the family meet at the designated location. Use a timer to make it more fun for the kids and keep track of how the family improves over the year. | |
| Conduct a family “get home drill” once a month. Take the children to a location in town and then ask them to guide us home. In nice weather we will walk, in bad weather we will stay in the car. |
